Summer is Here!

My favorite time of year is summer-the weather, fun day trips, the beach, spending time with friends, cook-outs, fire pits, s'mores, ahhh.  What are some of your favorite summer time activities?

The summer also gives me more time to get those creative juices going.  Nothing better than a rainy day stuck inside because then I get to spend the day sewing!  That’s where these guys came from…

My newest creation is putting my owls on shirts.  I love seeing the owls come to life on a shirt and I must say kids look super cute in them!  Below are some summer owls and shirts that I made recently.  If you want one for yourself or child just let me know I would be happy to accommodate your requests.

Earth Day-Hurray!!

Some of you may not know that I am a K-5 Technology Teacher 3 days a week and one of my favorite subjects to teach is environmental science.  This year I am even more excited to teach it thanks to The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.  This book can be used for any grade because of all the messages buried inside its pages.  I also highly recommend the movie, my 4 year old and I loved it.  The movie carries a very powerful message as well, "Let it Grow!"

As we are approaching Earth Day I thought I would take a moment to share some activities and websites that I use with my students and daughter.  Since I have so many I am going to limit it to some of my favorites.

Activities:

• Make a truffula tree using pipe cleaners and pom-poms.
• What would you say if you could speak for the trees?

• Do a clean-up outside-pick up trash, weed, etc.
• Plant a tree, garden, etc.

Pinterest Advice Needed

Hope everyone is having a good week!  Happy Australia Day to those living down under!  Well, I have caught up on orders and am looking forward to finally tackling my sewing room. 

We moved last summer and I couldn't wait to have my own space to sew and scrapbook.  The room finally got painted and now it is time to set it up and organize.  I have put it off far too long.  The hard part is where to put everything and the set-up will be key to maximize my space especially when my daughter wants an art table in there for her to do arts and crafts with mommy or while mommy sews.  All this being said, I thought I could get some ideas from Pinterest.  I am new to Pinterest and could use any help or suggestions you are willing to give. 

In the meantime, I plan to use my creativity to create new Valentine, St. Patty's Day, and Easter Owls for my Etsy shop and Simply Charmed Boutique.  I am full of ideas and have a book full of sketches that are just dying to get out and turned into plush owls!

The New Year is Here!

Well it looks like I am not meeting my goal of blogging more often.  I guess you just can’t do it all and when life gets busy it leaves less time for this.  Maybe the New Year will bring about more posts and now tweets.  I finally joined Twitter (@tzburps) and Pinterest (TZ Burps).

I am excited to share that TZ Burps is off to a great start so far in 2012.  I hope to keep the momentum going.  Only 10 more sales away from 200 and my shop’s 2 year anniversary on Etsy is March 5^th.  My goal is to reach 200 sales by March 5^th.  My new favorite product to make are the bubo owls, they seem to be the right size and price.  You will be able to enter to win a free customized bubo owl starting Monday at RockerByeBaby’s blog.  I have also enjoyed making the mini owls/birds.  20 of them just went on a journey to Canada for a 1 year old’s birthday party!  You can enter to win your choice of mini owl or bird at Lindsey’s Fluff n Stuff on Facebook from now until Feb 1^st.  Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it and TZ Burps has a lot of new items ready to ship for the special day, so make sure to check out the Etsy shop.  Thanks again for being such great supporters and here’s to a hooteriffic 2012!

Where has the time gone?!

Man, where has the time gone?  I have been so busy trying to balance orders, shows, stock, teaching, my daughter’s schedule and school, house work, Etsy, Facebook, am I missing anything?  Whew!  Anyone have any tips on how to balance it all?  My mom always says you can’t do it all, but I have that drive to do it all.

Anywhooo, I am glad to be back.  It is time to get into the swing of things starting with sharing all the upcoming sales for black Friday and cyber Monday brought to you by the EtsyKids team!

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Where has the summer gone?  Back to work for me as a teacher began last week, then an earthquake, followed by a hurricane!  What a crazy week.  Things are getting back to normal, kids returned to school mid-week, and now it is time to balance work, sewing, and family.  Not an easy task, but I am sure it will all work out.

Back Home

Just got back from a wonderful time at the beach with friends.  My good friend invited my daughter and I to come stay with her and her family for a few days at Ocean City, MD.  It was just what we needed!  Family time away without the computer, Internet, sewing machine, to do lists, etc.
